How much LTD coverage should I offer?

Typical group LTD plans replace 60% of pre-disability monthly earnings, capped at $5,000–$15,000/month. Higher-earning workforces (physicians, executives) frequently need supplemental individual LTD on top of group LTD because the group cap leaves a meaningful income-replacement gap above the cap. We layer individual LTD over group LTD where indicated; the individual policy is portable, "true own-occ" for specialists, and pays even when group LTD doesn't cover specialty-specific disability.
