How is professional liability different from general liability?

GL covers physical harm — injuries and property damage caused by you or your premises. Professional liability covers economic harm caused by your expertise, advice, or services failing to meet the expected standard of care. A client tripping on a cord in your office is GL; a client losing a deal because you missed a filing deadline is professional liability. Most professional and healthcare businesses need both, because the policies cover entirely separate exposures.
