What is professional liability insurance and who needs it?

Professional liability — also called errors & omissions (E&O), or malpractice in healthcare contexts — covers claims that you made a professional mistake that caused a client or patient financial or bodily harm. The classic triggers are negligence, missed deadlines, flawed advice, miscommunication, and failure to deliver promised services. Any business that gives advice, renders professional services, or designs/builds something for a client should carry it. That includes healthcare practitioners, consultants, accountants, lawyers, architects, engineers, IT and tech firms, marketing agencies, and many others. State licensing boards, hospital credentialing committees, and client contracts increasingly require it as a condition of doing business.
