How much does LTC insurance cost?

LTC pricing varies sharply by age, sex, benefit amount, and inflation rider. A 55-year-old male can typically expect a four-figure annual premium for a moderate-benefit policy without inflation protection; a 55-year-old female pays meaningfully more (women live longer and use more care). Recent industry pricing has trended upward as carriers reprice for longer expected claims, with higher premiums applied to newly issued policies than were charged a decade ago. Premiums can also rise after issue — multiple major carriers have implemented multi-year rate increases on existing blocks of business. Hybrid life/LTC and annuity/LTC products avoid premium-increase risk by combining LTC with a life or annuity product, but at higher up-front cost. The American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance (aaltci.org) publishes annual price indices for current benchmarks.
