MorningsideHealth & Risk

Is cyber insurance really necessary for a physician's office?

Yes. Any practice that stores or transmits protected health information is subject to HIPAA breach notification requirements. A single breach — a stolen laptop, a ransomware attack, or a misconfigured EHR — can trigger federal investigation and six-figure notification and remediation costs that standard malpractice and general liability policies explicitly exclude. Cyber coverage is no longer optional for a modern practice.
