What if I work from home — does my homeowner's policy cover business property?

Almost never adequately. Homeowner's policies typically cap business property coverage at $2,500–$5,000 and exclude business liability entirely. If you run a meaningful business from home — telehealth practice, consulting firm, tech startup — you need either a home-business endorsement on the homeowner's policy (limited but inexpensive), a standalone business owner's policy, or a dedicated business personal property policy. Healthcare professionals doing patient-facing telehealth from home should be especially careful: a patient claim arising from a home-office consultation is a malpractice exposure, but the home-office equipment and HIPAA-required IT setup is property and cyber.
