What is commercial auto's relationship with NY no-fault?

NY is a no-fault state — meaning your own PIP coverage pays first for medical and lost wages from an auto accident, regardless of who's at fault, up to the no-fault policy limit. Lawsuits for pain-and-suffering damages require crossing the "serious injury" threshold defined in NY Insurance Law §5102(d) — broken bones, significant disfigurement, permanent loss of use, etc. For commercial vehicles, no-fault PIP pays the same way, and the commercial auto liability policy then responds to any tort claim that crosses the serious-injury threshold. The interaction matters at claim time: PIP is fast, no-fault, and capped; tort claims are slow, fault-based, and uncapped (up to your liability limit).
