When should I report a potential claim?

As soon as you have a reasonable belief that a client or patient might bring a claim — before a demand letter or lawsuit arrives. Most professional liability policies include an "incident reporting" or "circumstance" provision that locks in coverage at the time of report, even if the actual claim doesn't surface until after the policy expires. Late reporting is one of the most common reasons claims get denied or contested. When in doubt, report.
