Will my premium go up if I report a claim?

Reporting a circumstance (a heads-up before any claim is filed) generally does not affect your premium — it's a procedural protection. An actual claim that is paid by the carrier, or even a serious one defended without payment, may affect your renewal premium and your options at the next placement. Carriers vary widely in how they treat first claims; some forgive a single first-time claim, others raise rates immediately. We'll know how each carrier in your placement options will respond and can re-shop if your incumbent reacts disproportionately.
