What's typically covered by vision insurance?

A standard group vision plan provides: annual eye exam ($10–$25 copay), frame allowance (typically $150–$230 toward glasses frames every 12–24 months, with 20% off any amount over the allowance), lens coverage (basic single-vision lenses fully covered, premium lenses at additional cost), contact lens allowance ($130–$300 in lieu of glasses, used annually). Most NY group plans use VSP, EyeMed, or Davis Vision as the underlying network. Differences between carriers are mostly network depth and the exact dollar amounts of the allowances.
