How do I get workers' comp coverage in New York?

Three paths: (1) a private carrier through a broker like us, (2) the New York State Insurance Fund (NYSIF, the state's competitive fund — open to all NY employers and often used as the carrier of last resort but also a viable primary option), or (3) self-insurance / group self-insurance trust for larger or specialized employers. We quote against private carriers first and use NYSIF as a backstop or a fit-for-purpose option (NYSIF is sometimes the most competitive choice for niche industries or accounts with claim history). Once placed, your account gets audited annually so payroll changes flow through to premium.
