MorningsideHealth & Risk

I'm a healthcare practice — how do I handle needlesticks, COVID exposures, and other staff-specific risks?

Needlestick and bloodborne-pathogen incidents are routine WC claims for clinical staff and should be reported immediately even if no infection has materialized — early reporting locks in coverage for any later-emerging exposure. COVID-19 claims are state-by-state on whether they qualify as occupational; NY has generally been favorable to healthcare workers infected on the job. Document staffing assignments, PPE protocols in place at the time, and exposure circumstances. Most carriers we place want a short post-incident report from the practice manager within 48 hours regardless of whether the employee files a formal claim.
