We're about to terminate an employee — should we loop the EPLI carrier in?
Most modern EPLI policies include a pre-claims advice or HR helpline benefit — included in the premium and unlimited-use. You can call before a sensitive termination, an accommodation refusal, or a layoff for free attorney advice on whether the planned action creates exposure and how to document it. This benefit is hugely underutilized; it's effectively a free in-house employment law counsel for the cost of one phone call. Use it routinely, especially before any termination of a protected-class employee or anyone who has recently complained.
